What are OKRs?

OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) is a goal-setting framework that organisations use to set clear, measurable goals and track progress towards achieving them.

The “Objectives” in OKRs refer to the high-level goals that an organisation wants to achieve. These should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). The “Key Results” are the specific, quantifiable metrics that will be used to track progress towards achieving the objectives.

OKRs are often used to align an organization’s goals and objectives across different teams and departments, and to ensure that everyone is working towards the same priorities. They are also used to encourage transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement within an organisation — and you can also set up personal ones to bring you forward.

When should you review them?

OKRs are typically reviewed on a regular basis, such as quarterly or annually, to track progress and make adjustments as needed. By regularly reviewing and updating your goals, you make sure that your path is moving forward and that you are making progress.

How do you make sure that your key results are measurable?

There are several steps you can take to measure a key result:

  1. Identify the metric you will use to track progress: The key result should be associated with a specific, measurable metric that can be used to track progress. This could be something like “Increase <this> by 20% over the next quarter” or “Do <that> 5 times a week over the next year”
  2. Set a baseline: Determine the current level of the metric you are tracking. This will give you a baseline to measure progress.
  3. Set a target: Determine the target level for the metric. This should be a specific, achievable goal that you are working towards.
  4. Track progress regularly: Regularly measure the metric and track progress towards the target. This could be done daily, weekly, or monthly, depending on the nature of the key result and the time frame you are working within.
  5. Analyse and adjust as needed: As you track progress, analyze the results and identify any areas where you may need to make adjustments to your approach in order to achieve the key result.

By following these steps, you can effectively measure progress towards achieving a key result and make any necessary adjustments to stay on track.
